The Blog From The Bog; Disjointed rants and ravings of a fluently foul mouthed, ex pat living in Co. Leitrim, here giving full rein to his own quirkiness. The character of " Ditch Shitter " having been forged, over years, on 'The Hunting Life' forum proved so strangely popular with enough people there, before I left, that their now constant drip of " Long time, no see; What ye up to? " notes has led me to answer them all, here.

Yes. I *Really* Talk Like This ....!
Most astonishing thing happened to me, last week. I'd gone over to the next county, to see a man about a metaphorical Dog.
We pulled up outside what looked like the right place and I stepped out of the motor to find a guy in the front of the building. I asked if he were the man I was to see about this Dog and he seemed genuinely astonished!
" My god! " He exclaimed. " You really do talk like that! " Then, to my own fucking astonishment, he called his fucking wife out! " Come and listen to this! He Really talks like it! " I'm like; What the Fucking hell is going on here?!
Or, should that have been something closer to " Waa da farkin ells go'n on ere?! "
Because I've retained my Pompey accent, see? And, if ye've never heard a real one? It's about as close to 'Cockney' as it gets. This is what all the fuss is about.
Turns out, this bloke has a mate ~ as Irish as Paddy Murphys Pigs ~ who puts on such an accent! (I figure he's a Big fucking 'East Enders' fan, or something?) And, to my mans unaccustomed ear, I guess I sounded exactly how his mate was trying to sound!
Fucking head wreck, isn't it? Why would any body do that? It's like me fucking off to France and trying to talk with a Dublin accent! It's just fucking bizarre!

I always wondered what your accent sounded like. I think you'd be disappointed that I don't talk like Tony Soprano :-D
Craig from NJ
Hmm. He works in a suite and tie? He also pronounces his H's! (Unheard of in a true Pompey accent!)
ReplyDeleteAnd many of his T's can be heard ..... We don't say " That's fucked it. " We say, " Thas fuck'd ih. "
No. I searched far and wide, on line, trying to find a proper Pompey accent. There simply doesn't appear to be one.
Brainwave!!! Craig; Expect a PM at Jims! You Will hear pure Pompey! LMAO!
And never mind that ye don't sound like Tony Soprano. You're from Noo Joysie. That's plenty good enough! LOL!
Thanks for the PM, Ditch! Fascinating accent!! Maybe a bit of Somerset? With a bit of "pirate" as well ;-) LOL!
