Saw this, posted by " Fiddler ", on a Birding forum. Made me laugh so much, I just had to bring it here!
" Winter is here and our native birds are finding food scarce.
Please go to the pet shop and buy a bag of nuts for our feathered friends.
There is no finer sight on a winters morning than a pair of tits around your nut sack. Just remember however its a bit early in the year to expect a swallow.......... "
Fucking belter from our Fiddler, eh?

Hi mate that is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteOn a serious note, during the deep freeze we had there last week, I found a Redwing thrush frozen solid in my backgarden. It hit home with me, so I put out a bag of oatmeal on a backing tray and soaked it in vegatable oil. Within minutes I had loads of birds feeding desperately, but the liquid water was what they most made use of.
Poor things. I stopped shooting birds a couple days into the freeze, but most lads around here went out and shot hundreds. A neighbour went out St.Stevens day and shot 13 woodcock. A bloody massacre! Thats not what it is about, in my opinion. Give the birds a break! No need to destroy them when they are easy to find!
RAPE is the best word I can describe the behaviour of the hunters around here.
Anyways. I am out for a bit of fun with the dog. Most times I dont even shoot the bird, and if I do it goes into my cooking pot, not tossed into the ditch.
I garauntee you that we will have another big deep freeze before St. Patricks Day.
