Pat On Purgatory .....

  Pat's dropped by, the other night. I'd asked him to grab me a four pack in town as I'd run out of beer. 

  So, we're stood out there at the gate, just chewing a bit of fat. Dark, starry night. I says something to the effect of, " You gonna nip in for a crafty one in ye local? "

  I was stunned when he turned round and said he doesn't drink in November. " For all the souls in Purgatory. " With which he stares up at all the stars. And it's fucking clear what he's thinking.

  Gotta respect that sort of shit. I know he goes to church every Sunday. Because I once called by and waylaid him as he was hurrying out the door to go. 

  Beyond that? I don't think I can even remember him asking me if I believed in " God " ~ which I fervently don't. But, I don't bother people with their own religious beliefs. They don't bother me.

  If only it could be left that way .....
